my dad used to say "he went all the way 'round the Wrekin when he was explaining that".

i never really bothered to try to fathom out what it meant (even though i used it too) and it never occurred to me what the Wrekin was... a real hill in Telford ... until i actually had to climb it on a team building day from work.

having tried to walk up it, i can understand why people go round it

I get things done in life, but I dont make a fuss or panic. Those who feel the problem should be dealt with by fuss and panic are driven mad by me (efficiently getting it done in my mind but dead slow in theirs).
So I answer their chivvying with
"dont forget: the tortoise won"
Which I am trying to develop into a known saying (one day I will hear someone else say it).
