How about electromagnets? You could switch off the power when you wanted to unclip! B)

Incidentally, you can't get a patent on something when you've already disclosed the idea so even if the magnet thing hadn't been done, you wouldn't be able to patent it now. (It's a bit more complicated than that, but it is wise to keep quiet until you've protected your idea)

The thought occured to me ; has no one thought of MAGNETIC PEDALS ?
Apart from the fact that patents cost a fortune, once an idea is put into the public domain it becomes 'prior art' and can not then be filed as a patent.

You can't patent ideas anyway - only devices or products.
