Supplied without pedals it is not classed as a bicycle (Because it can't be ridden) but a collection of components. This gets round the requirement that all new cycles sold in the UK must have the front brake on the right and must be fitted with reflectors.

Same here. A tea spoon would be more comfortable to sit on.

I find it best to think of a bike as a collection of customisable bits rather than as a finished, immutable machine.
