I pick up the youngest grandkid about once a week from his school
We had no part of the school choice - his big sister went there so he did
(middle one goes to a Special School)
It is basically the nearest Catholic school - with a good reputation and all that
so they go there
and at the start their parents went to a church a few times - not that they have go since they got whatever it is they needed!
anyway - the parking is amazing
I just ognore it and drive past the school and then head away and park somewhere sensible a few minutes walk up the road
but near the school - i.e within 1 minute's walk - people are crazy and just park al over the place
even on the corners of the road making it almost impossible to see round them
it is amazing that some people won;t even walk more than a minute to get the kids back to theri car
and that school is FAR better than some I have heard of!!

Other than due to injury (the kid with a foot in plaster, not me) I've never driven a child too or from school, and Im proud of that. Its a form of unwitting abuse to deprive increasingly fat and maladjusted children of such simple and natural exercise and environmental interaction.

Kid at the school where I taught lived several miles away and was one of the few that had a bus pass
but she always walked home - took her 90 minutes - and if it was not bad weather she often got up early to walk in as well
she was in the Army Cadets and her ambition was to drive a tank
all I can say is that if she is still in the Army and achieved her ambition then may teh Gods help any enemies of that Tank Division
she was a lovely girl - until she wasn't and then she was dangerous!!!
hope she has done well in some way - she had a horrible brother but rose above it

My wife used to drive our kids to school quite regularly - but then she was a teacher at the same school - and we lived about 3 miles away.

It is difficult sometimes
when my daughter was starting school we looked around
there were 2 school within walking distance
one was in Special Measures and showing no signs of improving
and it was on a very dodgy council estate with massive drug problems
the other we went to see
it smelt damp and they had had called flea eradicators in several times over the last few months
and its inspection report and results were nearly as bad as the first school
the third was a lovely little school a couple of miles away with good reports and results and the building were all in one piece and clean
everyone from out little estate with kids sent them to this 3rd school
so she went there and was driven to school
she did however get taken out walking every day of the week unless it was pouring down and we went for long walks every weekend on top
Our primary school was a mile away, we always walked - didn't have a car in though days. I was taken on the first day by my mum but after that I walked with my sister and brother until they turned 11 and went to other schools. After 11 the next school was a mile away in the other direction always walked. From 13 school was about seven miles away so we went by bus, except we would deliberately miss it and walk. The school would then refund our bus money and we'd miss the first couple of lesions. It was a really crap school so we hadn't mist anything good. I went there for two years, couldn't wait to get out.
