As an aside, Stephanie Flanders, the former BBC Economics Editor, is the daughter of Michael Flanders and I always hoped she would use some of his lyrics in one of her talks about the economy.[/QUOTE]

I'm sure you're right, it's just that their songs seem to be redolent of a particular era. Reminds me of my Dad playing Spike Jones And His City Slickers

Flanders and Swann. How much influence did they have on your childhood?

(Or a thinly disguised attempt to find out what is and isn't acceptable as a thread title.)

That I immediately knew what the thread was about might give you the answer.

Spurred on by @User13710 saying some of the stations mentioned in "The Slow Train", which is a song about cuts to the rail network, are still open, I thought I'd google the lyrics. The first hit took me to a page at flashlyrics which renders them thus, complete with asterisks:
No more will I go to Blandford Forum and Moretehoe
On the slow train from Midsomer Norton and Mumby Road
No churns, no porter, no cat on a seat
At Chorlton-c**-Hardy or Chester-le-Street
We won"t be meeting again
On the slow train.
Won't someone think of the childrun?
