Used to see one about in Newport Pagnell but the owner - Roy Pink of Roy Pink Cycles fame - is an old boy now and can no longer ride it.

I used to commute to Irvine on the Metrolink and met a guy with a home-built penny-farthing stored in the bike section of the train. He is a professor at University of Irvine and rode it from the station to work. I asked him what the hardest part of building the bike was. "The spokes". Interesting guy.

I saw this chap just recently on my trip to the Austrian Alps, apparently he is well known in Schladming and rides this modern incarnation daily.

My first job after leaving school in 1978 I cycled to work in Pilling Lancs and I would see a guy riding his penny farthing to work every day in the opposite direction , never seen one used for comuting since.

I don't really see the appeal of them, their replacements weren't called safety bikes for no reason, as Jeremy Vine found out.
