I used to commute to Irvine on the Metrolink and met a guy with a home-built penny-farthing stored in the bike section of the train. He is a professor at University of Irvine and rode it from the station to work. I asked him what the hardest part of building the bike was. "The spokes". Interesting guy.
My first job after leaving school in 1978 I cycled to work in Pilling Lancs and I would see a guy riding his penny farthing to work every day in the opposite direction , never seen one used for comuting since.
Oh no. I've just re-discovered Wobbly John's Instructable on making a Penny Fakething.
