A nephew of a friend plays golf to a high standard and often plays matches against players from other clubs he doesn't know.

The etiquette is a polite "good shot" if your oppo hits a good shot and say nothing if it's a bad shot.

He played an American recently and after any good shot my friend's nephew played the American said

"Now that's a golf shot right there!" in a loud voice.

Of course he wanted to wrap his driver around the bloke's head, but instead shut up. He said he lost easily - he almost hoped he'd hit a bad shot, so he wouldn't have to hear it.

(Needless to say I intend to use the same tactic if I ever play in a golf tournament)

I work on a golf course (greenkeeper) and play a lot of golf (badly).

There's no etiquette whatsoever when greenkeepers play together!

Whatever side of the drink you are on it really does not make sense to say the way a ball is hit is awesome (unless it somehow filled you with fear and respect).
