A sad session in the garage this morning getting the Phil Sherwood road bike ready to hand over to its next owner tomorrow.

I cheered up with a rear mechanism adjustment to try and sort the occasional skipping of gears on the scruffy Trek and it seemed to have sorted it out on a quick road test 😁.

I like the manual "overdrive" front gear change, reach down and pull on the cable for a few revolutions on the big ring!!

You will be glad to know that the excess cable has gone after this morning's 8 miles.

Longest ride on the trek this morning, bike went well so just kept going. My aim was 25+

It rode really nicely with no issues and was very smooth to ride .

Just need to decide whether to keep it for a winter bike once I fit some guards or transplant all the mechanicals on to an old Harry Quinn frame I have or flog it?

Just had a quick look at the new arrival and thankfully the seat post is not seized the seller had just not undone the clamp enough.

Chain has a few rusty links but they seem to be free so a quick wipe down with some gt85 and left it to soak should sort them out.

Tyres have been inflated and will see if still inflated tomorrow.

It's been stood unused for at least 3 years and it doesn't look like it's had much use but enough for some crank to shoe rub .

Just had my first ride on this one and why would you fit an aluminium bottle cage that doesn't grip a drink bottle!

But apart from that looks like the front mechanism/sti unit/cable will be going under investigation as currently only the middle ring is selectable all the rears have reported in for action.

I had bottles bounce out of the front cage on my best bike a couple of times. After that I managed to bend it enough to grip bottles firmly and the bottles have subsequently stayed in place on fast, bumpy descents.

Checked the obvious IE make sure the shifter and mechanism are both triple friendly and they are , so next step is the Hi-Lo adjustment for all I know the original owner might have adjusted it so outer ring can't be selected you just never know

A quick adjustment on the limit screw for the outer ring and hey presto all gears are operational although I can hear why the limit screw was wound in as a ticking noise when on outer ring so need to do a bit more checking and sort that out.

All in all first 6 miles went well enough and it certainly feels different to my old steel bikes.
