Perils of buying 2nd hand and goings on in my garage

Early session in the garage this morning swapping out the old rear tyre for the new one and a quick de dust of the spokes and rim.

I struggled to remember the procedure for removing the rear wheel but got it out in the end.

So sturmey archer 3 speed hub with 2 external cogs on a 26x1 1/4 alloy rims and a funky rear derailleur who's brand I can't remember....

Lots of jiggery pokey on this 50's machine.

A further 6 miles this morning has been travelled successfully.

Next job is to work out what to do with the lights they add character to the machine but are next to useless.

As can be seen there are a few breakages in the wiring , tempted to remove wiring and just leave the lights in place?

The test miles are coming along nicely with this one so far .
Had a spare 30 minutes earlier tonight so did a bit de dusting the frame and paint work .

It's a big part of it especially when I have done the work rather than splashed the cash

Next out of the shed is this Pro Bikes machine, it's been in the fleet for years but gets little use as it's really my stepsons bike and for at least the last 7 years he mainly lives in Bangkok but he is due back this weekend so I need to get it mobile.

Built around a scruffy Columbus zonal alloy frame set and a set of kinesis forks so is mega light BUT it's one of a batch that they made with the rear brake bridge in the wrong place by about 25mm !!!

Set up as single speed with flat bars and actually rides well, so far tyres have been inflated and stayed inflated, de dusted and added a saddle.

Next is pedals and rotate bars then test it

Well it's been on a mile ride and it stops nicely and apart from a ticking noise from the drive line it will do might give it a few miles tomorrow morning to get a better idea.

It's highly likely that it won't cover more than 5 miles in the hands of my stepson

My Hardisty mountain goat has been getting readied for some miles after not being used last year and possibly the year before.

I had my weekly quick look at the bikes in the local recycling shop (tip) earlier and I almost came away with a bso road bike that had a decent set of gatorskins fitted , I should have asked how much but I just couldn't and get told it was £30+

I’m surprised they weren’t giving it away with Gatorskins. You couldn’t pay me to ride on those.
