Permanent marker on leather settee...HELP!!

What's more annoying than a drunken teenager...??


... A drunken teenager that is covered in permanent marker pen, sleeping on your leather settee

Any tips on to get this lot off....before I wring his bloody neck!!

Baby oil worked for us in the past.

parafin may work, but test it on a small area out of view first.

hairspray works very well on ball point pen marks, so give that a try if nothing else works

whatever you use it's best to clean that off with the usual "leather cleaning/feeding" stuff afterwards.

let us know how you get on, we have a cream leather sofa as well so may be useful to know

Have you tried Googling?

Not very encouraging, though! See for example here:

Permanent marker will have permanently dyed your leather and no amount of cleaning will remove the mark.

Please do not try hairspray or other solvent based products as this may make it impossible to repair and will probably damage the leather finish

You will need to contact a qualified leather technician who will be able to recolour the area for you. Do not use DIY kits off the internet as you need to use a colour that is exactly matched to your leather otherwise the repair will look awful.

Looks like you'll need a time machine. Or perhaps you could get the seat cover re-upholstered? I wonder whether this is covered by insurance?

Meanwhile, can we assume that LOUD SCREAMS will be heard issuing forth from the FunnyMummy residence, tonight?

To remove permanent marker from white boards we used to over write with the correct wipe off marker and immediately wipe it off. After several overwrites the permanent marker does come off.
Try it on your sofa on just a small area.

Yeah, maybe - but there were several google hits and they all told the same story. Leather is expensive stuff anyway, and it looks like the well-intentioned advice by others on this thread, might go badly wrong.

We have leather furniture too, bought earlier this year, but it's a darker colour and - to date - hopefully un-markered. If the worst happens we shall go back to the store for advice, before we touch it. I'm sure they get this sort of thing often enough...

acetone! (nail polish remover) im a firm believer in a gung ho approach to matters such as these-it looks a state anyway so hit it with allsorts. As someone with (a limited) experience of working with solvents id say acetone should do the trick. betcha a fiver it works!
