I'm sensing a certain polarization in the responses here....

If someone wants to harm a cat, they will harm a cat. You can ban fireworks, they'll use something else..

That's true, but there is still no real need for a small explosive device to be so readily available to the general public. Organised displays only please, or else make them so ridiculously expensive that none of the numbnuts can afford to buy them......

Thankfully you don't hear them for days and days in advance anymore, but after listening to the sound of fireworks being set off for 6 solid hours last night, and still hearing a few tonight, I'd quite happily see them banned!

I am terrified of fireworks, I hate them.

But banning them? Which killjoy sits down and writes a petition about it?

Whoever it is needs a good kick up the arse.

I think it was User482!

What a load of codswallop. I would rather see cheesegraters banned - I've had fair more accidents with them than I have, or even heard of anyone I know having had with fireworks.

But that aside, what the heck is a "dirty firework"?

Replying to my own message, it seems Fireworks are being blamed for the M5 crash, which is interesting.

I don't think that's overly fair, but it does make me rethink my reply a little.

I won't be signing this, one more step towards a nanny state, maybe they should ban the sale of cars to the public as these kill more people , unfortunately.

I agree. Lots of things are dangerous. Nobody sets out to kill or maim with fireworks. Now Che Guevara, he did set out to kill and maim people, he was a terrorist and murderer.

Fireworks are an English tradition.

Can we please try and keep it polite (ish). Starring out words doesn't make them any less offensive.
Nor do I need the mental image of MissTillyFlop doing that to someone!
Cheers. As you were...

Anyone been in France on Bastille day? Makes our 5th of November seem tame in comparison...

I want a ban on toasters that burn bread on setting 6 that have a setting that go's up to 11

Also a ban on the sale of motorised vehicles that can go faster than 70 mph as the limit is only 70mph on Britain's roads

Why all the ridiculous comparisons? Its a petition to end the sale of rocket propelled explosives to the general public, not kitchen equipment.

If you want to sign it then do so, if not then don't. Its not rocket science ;)

What amuses me is the "War on terror"

Why bother with a "fertiliser bomb" or home made explosives when you can buy more than enough explosives in your corner shop!
