That is a very unpleasent sight for those who don't like the sight of dead animals.

I saw one on a magazine front cover many years ago. Same thing, a mouse that got into a bread tin except that one went through the bread slicer afterwards.

Was the bread slicer in the newsagents then?

Having worked 2 large industrial bakeries like this I can confirm that hygiene standards are shocking. Because bread is seen as a low risk food when it comes to food poisoning (when compared to meat, dairy etc.) a lot of the workers couldn't give a toss.

In the places I worked it was daily occurrence to see someone pick bread up off the floor and put it through the slicers and package it. It was also a daily occurrence to see one particular baker with his hand in his ass crack picking yesterday's dinner off his cheeks.

The machines were never cleaned, scrap dough that had fallen on the floor was often reworked into another mix the list goes on. Of course when it came time for an audit all of that was hidden away.

Also if the malt syrup isn't covered flies have a nasty habit of dive bombing into it. You would never be able to tell as they would get obliterated in the high speed mixer but they'd still be there.

Go on then name names.

I'm a service engineer for food packaging machinery and I've worked in food factories all over the world, I've never seen scenes like you describe in a bakery in this country.

I visit Warburtons sites regulary, and I'd say they have some of the highest QA and hygiene standards in the food industry in this country.

I once worked in a testing lab for a summer job - but very near the complaints department... so saw various things sent back over that 6 weeks. But I definately remember there was a pink yeast like thing called "rope"? that was more serious if it was in the bread, and it could make people ill. (This is going back 25 years so sorry if my memory is incorrect.)

I remember the slicing blades were one of the occasional finds in bread. Luckily there were no mice found when I was there. But they did use to count how many flies there were in fig biscuits - there was a maximum allowable amount.

I'm only posting this so FF doesn't start another thread about how disappointed he is that his 'frankly I'm disappointed this thread didn't do better' thread didn't do better!

Does that make sense?!!!!! ;)

You ever worked in Allied Bakeries? In the last Tesco audit I think only one of their sites got a green and that was the tiny one in Liverpool. The one I worked in got an amber so what does that say about the ones that got redxx(
