Saw your posted pics on saturday but was away for days - meant to say lovely shots - it's all the better having been to most of those places in and around auld reekie. Did you say you're a graphic designer too? That's kind of up my street in Edinburgh, so to speak.

Yes I'm a graphic designer. 16 years now, the last 3 being freelance. I take it you're in the design game too then?

Thank you very much. I'm by no means a pro, and to be honest I don't think I'd like to be. Photography is my escape from the design world. I do it for me and I'd never want to be paid for it. That way nobody can tell me what's right or wrong, good or bad, beautiful or ugly.......




I'm oldschool. Still using film. I've always been a bit of a 'touchy feely' person and I get a bit excited picking up film from the lab and gazing into a loupe at some medium format film. I've had a shot of a few DSLR's in the past few years and they just make me lazy. Too easy to rely on in-built settings and auto focus. Give me an old manual focus film camera and I'm a happy chap. I like the process of thought that goes into something that is costing me money (can you tell I'm Scottish!). Not that I wouldn't sell a limb to own a quality DSLR of course.

Apart from my DSLR I still use a Canon AE-1 Programme, I've had it for over twenty years, just picked up a 24mm FD lense a few months ago at a camera fair for £30.
I know exactly what you mean about the anticipation of getting your film back and the need to think about the shot before you take it.

Thanks for everyone’s comments. The Jaguar was taken at Chester zoo with the aid of a 500mm lens. It’s one of my favourite shots and I have an A1 canvas hanging on the wall of the image.

Actually now you mention prints ... any recommendations for good quality printers who would do large prints A3, A2 A1 on glossy or canvas ?

For canvas prints I’ve used ‘Canvas Kings’, a couple of times, and have been pleased with the results.
For general prints ‘Photobox’.

... +1 for photobox. They've been great for me in the past and their customer service is awesome.

Anyway, just to keep this thread running, here's a few more of mine. I'm still a big fan of film, I just haven't had the money recently. But I did get an iPhone, and although I've not been a fan of the cleanliness and perfection of digital photography, (and the iphone is seen as a crap digital camera as it's only 3mp), the Hipstamatic app is fulfilling my need for analogue looking pics. It's the only camera I'll have on me all the time and the random/unpredictable results are starting to win me over.

Anyway...
