LCpl Boiled Egg

Three word soundbite
I had not seen a picture of Steve Wright for years, so this came as a bit of a shock.

Wow. Losing all that weight has took years off hasn't it?

Radio 2 DJ's talking about "giving a SHOUT OUT" to whoever.... WTF?
Don't they mean they are giving someone a mention on the radio?
Zoe Ball and Steve Wright; this means YOU!

Whilst this may appear a silly phrase for the radio, there is good history behind it. It was first used in the hip hop scene in the 70s and 80s where announcements were made by the on-stage DJ. As the announcement had to reach the back of the dancefloor, he had to 'shout out'. It's naturally carried over to airplay.
Rarely by choice, but I've heard a LOT of Steve Wright over the years. (and that includes quite a lot of TopOfThePops presented by him)

It is crystal clear that he knows he is decades past being "down with the kids".

(No idea about Zoe Ball - I was very fond of her dad though !)

You want to go that way.
Or variations:
You want to do that. You want to click that checkbox. And so on.

Satnav that has become too polite:
"Please turn left" instead of simply "turn left".
You don't hear ATC say "please descend to 700". It's just simply "Descend to 700". Clear. Concise.

Please who use the other person's name excessively. Example, I recently heard:
Hey Mel! How are you Mel? I haven't heard from you for ages Mel! What have you been up to Mel? I was missing you Mel!
(and what was extra bad was all these questions were asked in quick succession without Mel able to answer).

I built that.
Oh yeah? Which bit did you do?
I paid for it.
So who built it?
I told you, I did.
But you said you only paid for it.
Yes, so I built it!
How did you build it?
I don't know, the workers might be able to answer that.
Oh? Did the workers build it?
Yes. I mean no. I mean yes. I mean I paid for it though.
So you paid for it but the workers built it?
No! I paid for it! Therefore I built it!
Are you just trying to take credit for someone else's work coz you paid for it?
No, I'm not so shallow.
How percentage did you pay?
10%
So who paid the other 90%?
The workers.
So the workers paid for most of it, and built all of it?
No! I told you, I paid for it. You are really irritating me, you have real communication problems, you are so detail oriented.
But you paid one tenth of it, and didnt do any of the work, yet you are claiming you built it.
I don't want to talk to you. I am going to go and talk to people who listen to me. You damned engineers are all the same.
Er yeah, I suppose we are.
I want to have the last word. Now I'm really going. I can't hear you laalaal can't hear you nanana ...

I sometimes absent mindedly say please to Alexa. Keeps my family amused...

"You just don't get it do you?".

Much used by some (or was) in various online places trying to affect gentility and fine feeling while bullying someone and trying to fit in with what they see as a favoured clique.

Have long found it pathetic.

Used to be quite common in a certain other small place.

Please tell me it is truly dead - on the way out.
