Seriously, I couldn't get to them quickly enough! I'm used to a hybrid ... on a turbo ... I've never fallen off that ...

Get the cross levers. Especially If you have small hands, you may struggle to get enough force through the brifters if you need to slow quickly on a steep hill or traffic

it's at the local bike place getting them put on. Better safe than sorry. Thanks for the advice. My knee should be scabbed up nicely by the time i get on it.

Cycling IS a cheap sport, dirt cheap in fact - if you don't chose to make it expensive. My cycling is probably even cheaper than walking per mile covered. I'm off out for a ride on a 27 year old, £20 bike wearing some shabby old clothing that has already had one service life as "respectable" wear and is now having a second incarnation as "I don't give a toss what it looks like" wear. I won't enjoy my ride any less because it doesn't involve shiny new stuff.

Living as a tramp is cheap too but I wouldn't recommend that either.

God makes me remember when I first got my road bike. Went from a hybrid Specialised to a road bike went out for 30 miles and cried all the way home. It was brutal.

If it makes you feel better, I used to fall off a lot at first and could feel everything on them tyres. But I’m still going.

Just take it at your pace with no pressure and it’ll be like second nature before you know it. ‍♂️‍♂️

makes me laugh! Can't even say I rode it, just sat on saddle for 3 feet then toppled over. Why I didn't put my feet down, I don't know.I
I'm going to take it up the common and practise on a straight flat road. Probably won't get it back until Tuesday due to the bank holiday

I'm very quick at moving my hands to the tops. I ride a lot in traffic and may just sit in the tops until I can get some speed up and move to the hoods

Each to their own. The OP can always remove them. The two other women I regularly ride with also have crosslever brakes
