Not actually a mummy, but I also saw a Ripley's exhibit that showed the true size of Robert Wadlow, the world's largest man. When a spectator, who was myself, came near to the seated figure, it stood up to full 8'11", and looked very life like. A little scary in a large museum with few people in it that day.

I was working at the Horniman Museum ( south London) a long time ago on a short contract. Our contact there was a delightful conservator. We went into her office/lab for instructions. On the table was an Egyptian mummy, who had been ever so slightly unwrapped. She had died perhaps 1500 years ago. The strangest thing is that that bundle of cloth and dried up flesh and bones still looked so tiny and vulnerable. It was impossible not to wonder about the life she had led, and not to feel sad as she lay there.
