My guess is that it will be fine. It'll certainly be fine for charging on your laptop, although it may not be for the data transfer. I think that you need to have the most recent i-tunes though (7.5?): It even knows the colour of my shuffle (pink), which freaks me out a bit.

it knows my (black) nano, from the wife's (white). a bloke at work has two minis acquired second hand from a repo auction, and it was a silver one that itunes got right, and a blue one that it thought was pink. methinks the blue was a reskin job.

both home and work macs are running the latest version of tiger. btw i have an apple jersey with a tiger print OSX logo on the back.
