Pinnacle Lithium 5 2016

I had some cash burning a hole in my pocket and fancied a different sort of a bike to the ones I already have - a well-seasoned super galaxy and a lightly used ultra galaxy.

I had scratched about on the internet and came to the conclusion that either Evans or Halfords was going to take my money. Eventually I decided that the Halfords offerings were too heavy or too gaudy and I ended up with a Pinnacle Lithium 5 2016 matt black bike from Evans.

Do you know what? It is really, really good.

It has an aluminium frame bristling with rack attachment points, steel forks and 700 wheels, mountain bike gearing and, best of all, hydraulic disc brakes. All this for £540 and it fits me like an absolute glove. The wide handlebars seemed strange at first but you can move your hands around. It seems really quick and nimble compared to my Galaxies.

I love the matt blackness of it and fitted a matching Brookes black saddle.

I am now scratching my head (dangerous, given that my follicles are now become seriously challenged) and wondering if, after decades of Dawes Galaxies, it is going to be the only bike I need.

They're not bad for what you get - I had a Lithium 1 for about 3 months before my wife gave it away whilst I was recovering. It's designed as a town bike and does get up to speed quickly.

I think you have already decided looking at that bit in bold, your bikes your choice. If your new bike does all you want it to do and more then why not sell on some of your fleet to recover a little of the money you have spent on the pinnacle.

A few on here have Lithiums, including @Pat "5mph" who has done loaded Lake District touring on hers.

Mine doesn't get much use, but it's a very likeable, versatile, easy to get along with bike.

As a "closet" anal retentive , as it were, I don't like getting rid of my bikes. The super galaxy has written some family history and even my son with his disposable everything lifestyle admits we should keep it. As for the Ultra Galaxy, you may be right. I don't think that I have ever truly got on with it.

It was fine when I bought it, then I cut down the bars, changed the tyres, the saddle, the grips, the pedals, added mudguards and a rack ... now it's even better

I know what you mean. But if I had gone for one with front suspension you are immediately adding weight in equivalent to a 3 person tent. I might try deflating the fat tyres slightly. It has Kenda tyres, not a brand I am familiar with, which have recommended pressures from 3.5 to 6 bar. They seem to be at maximum at the moment and are as hard as cartwheels.

Sounds like Trigger's brushes on Only Fools and Horses. He had had only one brush in his whole working career but it had had several changes of head and handle.

You do realise that a black bike with a black saddle means you can only fit black panniers.... Carradice Super C's should do the job.

Already got them. There have about 8000 miles on the clock, complete with mouse holes from poor storage. My Mrs is the colour matching demon. I was in Halfords today looking at bike pumps. The topeak rocket looks great at only £17. Unfortunately she was with me and insisted that I couldn't possibly have that one because it was silver, and that I should buy the all black Boardman alloy pump at £20.

No problem. I shall go back to Halfords when she isn't with me and buy the rocket. Well, £3 is £3 after all. A pint of the brown stuff.

Nope. It did come with a massive dented scrape on the downtube but otherwise was fine.

It was great for popping around Leeds until I mistakenly took it home for a service the week I was injured. Whilst unable to move SWMBO gave the Pinnacle away since I'd only spent £20 on it

Mine is still growing on me. I like it. Also it is 50% of the price of an Ultra Galaxy with vastly superior Deore hydraulic brakes.
And it is black.....not one of those lime green pinnacle offerings.
PS I bought the Race Rocket pump silver, grey and black, much to her disgust. Only three ounces too.
