In total agreement.

I live on the very outer edge of London.
A 40 minute rail journey and I am in Charing Cross. If I miss the last train then it's the rock n' roll night bus to get the drunken masses home.

I am 5 minutes cycling from some of the best cycling countryside the UK can offer in the Garden of England.
OK I have to put up with living in Orpington (Mrs Ian is an Orpingtonite), but that's mainly due to the price of houses where I wanted us to live (Wimbledon/Putney/Fulham) were we would of had to pay 2 or 3 times more for the same size house as we have now.
Orpington.
Next time you visit Waitrose look up to the roof. You should see edge protection (guard rail).....I put that up ^_^

If I had to go to a city, I'd probably head back to Milton Keynes

Now that was unexpected!

I was born and for 21 years lived on The Wirral (New Brighton). When I married I moved to my wifes home town (Warrington).
For very many years I wanted to live in Cornwall.
Now, although I like Warrington, I would quite happily live in New Brighton. But at 69 I cant see it happening.

I'm an army brat born in Germany, then lived Newcastle, Woolwich in the 70's with bombs going off and bombscares, Harrogate, North Wales in various places where my children were born and I'd left home. Back to north Yorkshire then the north east again then north Wales. Then in 2009 I bought a boat in Leicester and lived on it there for two years ages! I sold that boat and bought one in braunston and set off for North Wales, another two years and I got to Nantwich after working and moving along the way stopping on the Ashby canal and at Stone, Staffordshire. After living and working at Nantwich I moved to near stoke on Trent to work and then Lincoln. Boat is now at Newark so I live there and work in Lincoln. I've moved around a fair bit and now on a river. When I retire will float between the Leeds and Liverpool canal and the shroppie/Llangollen as my children live in those areas

I'm definitely rooted to this part of Lancashire, but it would be nice to live in a dwelling from which i could see the sunsets over Morecambe Bay.

I'm half an hour from the Lake District, half an hour from the Yorkshire Dales and Manchester is an hour away (the nearest any half decent band plays).

Currently living in a small village on the outskirts of Basingstoke and the only real plus living in this area is the countryside for cycling. Once I no longer have to work I think somewhere like Devon would be more to my liking although the lumpy Devonshire topology will be a bit of a challenge for cycling.

We still own a property in Devon, and in all likelihood we'll inherit property there. But by the time I get back there on a permenant basis I'll only be fit for laps of Burrator reservoir! Though I could go electric.....

I've a soft spot for LLandudno, though I'm not sure I would want to live in the town itself, now I'm retired I recon the area would be nice to retire to. Unfortunately its unlikely to happen, my Good Lady wouldn't want to move away from the city she was born and brought up in.
Llandudno is a lovely town with a nice sea front. Often ride there although the road on the Little Orme gives you a good workout, both ways , and even harder workout on the Great Orme.

I live in West Yorkshire, the Howardian Hills, north of York or the North Yorkshire Moors, the Yorkshire Dales, Rural Northumberland, The Eastern Lakes, North Derbyshire all would make ideal locations for me.

Where would I hate to live? London, or any other big city. I worked in London for over 25 years, and after I left that job about 15 years ago, I have only been there twice. Once to the theatre, and once to visit someone in hospital.
When I first left school and went to work, I loved the hustle and bustle of the capital, but that soon wore off, and I dont miss it at all.

I lived all my life in north Kent, just on the edge of the countryside, which was about the only thing that kept me sane for a lot of years.

Where would I like to live? Just about 4 years ago, we sold up and moved to Broadstairs. Its a lovely place, and our life here is so much happier and more positive than it had been before. I truly never, ever want to move away from here.......

Here for rides.
Weardale, or the Tyne valley. Near Corbridge. Roots and beauty. But tlh won't go north.

Mid-Wales near Llanidloes or Llangurig. Roots and beauty but we've done it before so maybe not.

The vicinity of Wells in Zummerzet. Beauty. Nice roads. Near the coast. Close enough to the SE if we need to get back pronto. Far enough from the SE for the house prices to make sense.
