Places you have "worked"

On another thread I confessed to "working" whilst in the pub, someone else had a conference call whilst on a shed roof....Add to this that 50 % of Blackberry owners have answered emails whilst on the Loo!

Wher eis the wierdest or even most unsuitable place you have "worked"?

I've taken the laptop to the allotment on some sunny spring a days, and told collegues I was working at home. When the call cames in I was able to charge up, use my 3g card (as it was then) and connect to the office - I had to make a hood to keep the glare off the screen but I got away with.

And with the wonders of modern technology I wrote a tender and submitted it electronically while travelling from Reading to Liverpool on the motorways. Of course, MrsGarrilla drove while I worked and played I-spy.

Trains, planes, tube trains, taxis, airports, coffee shops, pubs, my car, parks, motorway service stations, other people's offices, business lounges, supermarket cafes ... but the most unusual was probably the Tower of London. Was showing a friend round when a business email arrived with something I needed to deal with immediately, so sat on a wall, got my laptop out, amended the document and emailed it from just outside the White Tower.

Mr Summerdays has taken work calls when we are on holiday, so all sitting in the car on my parents driveway about to go to Legoland, on Hadrians Wall and on the beach. Drives me nuts... we are not talking 2 min calls - an hour or so each time!!!

I know ... but he is a dedicated being, and some of that was when he was working for Orange... where they seemed to never twig that someone might be on holiday. He was too nice to simply say... I'm on holiday!!!!

And I forgot every New Year's eve at midnight he would do the count down then go off to a corner to start phoning/texting (doing something anyway) so that he could check the boxes (can't remember what the technical term was) were still up. So that everyone else could text and phone to their hearts content.

He always seems to end up in jobs where he doesn't have a strict work time and will do work at home in the evening - seems to be the expectation that you will put in the hours. Any complaints I make are met with the "that's what pays the bills" - which is very true.

A business phone call that needs AN HOUR? Blimey, they must have been planning an entire campaign. My calls don't last more than 2-3 minutes unless it's somebody I want to chat with on non-business matters. I seldom give my mobile number to customers and those who do ring me out of hours are clear that I can't do anything to help them anyway so they don't bother. I seldom attend meetings, probably sit and have a coffee with the boss twice a month if that's a meeting, probably attend formal meetings twice a year.

On overseas trips though it's a different matter, sometimes I'm still meeting with customers over dinner at 9 or 10 at night. Arduous indeed.
