There are parts of it that make me think of both sow thistle and fat hen...... but the leaf on the OP is too saggitate.

If you nip off a leaf or cut the stem does it exude a milky sap?

I'm throwing this into the salad bowl....

Well, the woman who gave my wife the plant has just confirmed that it's red orach.
Sometimes known as mountain spinach.
I'll eat some tomorrow and let you know if I survive.
I won't if I don't!

Having been in horticulture for 30 years (bloody hell!) I've picked up a lot of knowledge, but plenty of it falls away leaving only remnants. I had to really think for a bit on that, and it was good fun doing it. Thank you for keeping me entertained!
