Bit ironic when supermarkets tell us how they're reducing packaging and they're actually increasing it all the time.
Ive worked in the fruit packing industry for 15 years. Back then 50% was packed into a simple net with one wineglass label. Over the years theyve come up (rather the packaging industry has...and the supermarkets have galloped along with it) with ever more plastic packaging until now, M&S are probably going to move over to a heavy plastic bag with a net window...looks lovely, but non of which is recycleable, is far more expensive to manufacture, takes far more electric and compressed air to form, far more expensive to transport, ever more expensive machinery to form it...and we suspect...not one end buyer gives a monkeys about the end pack, only whats in it.
Maybe tomorrow I'll weigh one empty pack...I suspect it probably weighs the same as at least 5 carrier bags...all to hold 6 clementines.
