Using a DVR2 camera, but unable to view anything taken on the computer

Following message displays when trying:

"The file F:\DCIM\RECORD\20100826\151240.AVI cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again."

The same file type imported from an ACT 2000 is supported

Anyone else come acrross this & how did you sort it. Same file type from seperate cameras. But only one plays back??

Try downloading VLC and see if it plays with that.

The AVI filetype does not tell you what format the film is done in. AVI files are often thought of as 'containers' for varying formats, such as xvid\divx\h264 etc. - probably why the old AVI files play fine, but these ones don't.

VLC will play almost any format AVI file, but does so completely independantly of Windows. If you need other Windows programs (such as Movie Maker) to 'do stuff' with these films, I suggest getting a new set of Codecs for windows.

KLite codec pack is a good one, install that and you will almost definitely be able to play your new movies in Media Player or whatever.

Which DVR 2
If you try loading it in quicktime does it play in that as I suspect it amy be mp4 format which is not supported
by windows media player but the avi extension will confuse windows into trying to use WMP
