adrian is a very gifted player and I've heard him live once, but Kathryn is easier on my eye ear with a more contemporary sound I think.

I am very fond of Kathryn, phwooarrrr, and I go to see her every time she's in the area but I find some of her contemporary stuff a tad underwhelming but I was brought up with the traditional 'raw' Northumbrian piping styles and its those that float my boat.

I ought to get the pipes re-reeded and serviced and find myself a tutor.

Two years ago at 59 I decided to try to learn to play a guitar. I bought myself a Yamaha Pacifica a Roland Cube amp, wah wah and chorus pedals.

I had approx 35 lessons and realised I was crap, clearing my basement this morning I stumbled across my guitar looking lonely and unloved on its stand untouched for nearly a year.

A couple of questions, can anyone learn to play guitar to a reasonable standard, any tips or recommendations, should I just sell it all.

Yay!!:bravo:..welcome back friends to the show that never ends we're so glad you could attend come inside come inside!

Playing guitar is incredibly rewarding, sure it's hard work, but that is why it's rewarding when it pays off. You have had 35 lessons more than I ever had so you have a real basis to move forward. Yes anybody with two hands can play the guitar to a reasonable standard...tips recomendations...erm...never give up, play till your fingers bleed, dont listen to other people who dont play, dont be restricted by rules, there are no rules. :becool:..just be careful you dont end up like me:rofl:

You really only need to learn 3 or 4 chords to be able to perform a lot of songs. Watch some youtube lessons, or maybe get a beginners DVD, and practice, practice, practice....

Don't expect to be able to play brilliantly straight away. But little by little you will get there.

If you really can't get to grips with the guitar, buy a ukulele. You might be all right with a little (soprano sized) uke, but if you have fat fingers then look for a larger (tenor sized) model. Ukes really are easy to get started on. There are only 4 strings, and many chords just need 1 or 2 strings held down, so you will learn the basic co-ordination between your strumming hand and your chord fingering hand. And there are masses of "how to" type videos on youtube, and masses of websites with songs arranged for uke with chord "pictures". Just ignore all the wisecracks from people about George Formby......

Best of luck, and stick at it!!!!
