Thinking about this a bit more, I am going to agree with those who are suggesting a saddle / bike set up issue.

After all, people ride all sorts of bikes in all sorts of shoes - I've ridden my road bike, which has SPD-SL pedals (basically triangular or D-shaped pieces of metal that are intended to have specialised shoes clipped to them) while wearing trainers (and I think even flat-soled office shoes) and I'd ride my folding bike (with flat pedals) wearing pretty much any shoe I own (including the ones with heels) - the exception being my fell-running shoes which have big chunky studs on the bottom which would catch on the pedals.

Like mentioned, either get pedals with more grip or get pedals with straps. Would not recommend SPD quite yet though.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I put some grip tape on some slippy metal pedals , it does wear out but i dont often ride flat pedals so it will last long enough and i can retape when it wears out .

wellgo v8 or v12 copies are very grippy indeed and can be had for just over a tenner.

I just popped a pair on my MTB and got on with them very well. I'm hoping they might help me stay on the pedals over some of the rougher stuff I ride!

They do look like they will raise a manly tear or two if they make contact with my shins though ;)

This ^. If your foot slips off with something like this then it will be down to foot position/angle etc. Cheap plastic pedals are easy to slip on if your foot isn't level
