Hi, new member here, I'm looking for help in replacing my bike's rear wheel. Here is my bike -

http://www.bikes2udirect.com/B2124.html

It's a single speed with 24" 1.95 rear wheel.

The problem I'm having is this, I need to replace the rear wheel, but I just don't know what to buy. Wheels I've searched don't seem to come as a complete package, meaning I need to buy the rim and then the hub or whatever, most of this terminology is lost on me. So I guess I'd like to know what else I need other than the rim itself. And do I have to buy 'single speed ready' rims? Then what type of hub would I need to buy? If I could just buy a new 24" wheel with a hub already fitted life would be simpler!

I'd really like to learn how to fix my own bike instead of running to the repair shop, and that means knowing which components I need and how to go about assembling them. Would appreciate any help from the resident bike experts!

Thanks.

In regards to wheel building, although I haven't purchased it myself it is very highly reviewed.

So what's broken.Given its a cheap 'jump' bike it's the whole rear wheel. It won't be that cheap to fix.

You might be better popping to Decathlon or other on-line retailers for a cheap new wheel.

It's a £240 bike, whole. Decathlon and or Halfords may have an off the shelf wheel suitable. Building your own wheels - spokes alone cost moe than a cheap replacement.

Have you been 'jumping' on it ?

fossyyant is right and there specialists retailers for this type of wheels, bikes, skareboards, etc.

The hub goes in the centre of the wheel and you will need to buy a single speed hub, just like the one you have or better still, reuse the hub you have if you can. The hub has to fit within your bike dropouts. The hub number of spoke holes must much the number of holes on the rim. The rim determines the size of the wheel, in this case a 24" rim. The spoke length need to be calculate for the hub and rim dimensions and you cannot just buy something that looks about the right size.

I Cannot agree

I assume that you are a bit of a novice and need a guiding hand and NOT discouragement .

Any bike can be saved , its only a case of how much time you are willing to spend on it , sometimes time is cheap and parts can be found - It might only be a £200 bike but a wheel can be easily rebuilt with a little time and patience
IF you are looking for guidance on DIY maintenance then google "Sheldon Brown " and there is a wealth on bike repairs .
There are tutorials on stripping and rebuilding a wheel on the atomic zombie site in the tutorials section .
http://atomiczombie.com/DIY Tutorials.aspx

I have replaced the rims on a couple of jump bikes -
I admit not with the original equipment but if the bike is only being used as a bike and not for the abuse that caused the original one to fail then virtually any 24" rim that has the same spoke bed diameter could be used -

The wheel can even be trued using a clothes peg on the rear stay , only problem you might have is removing a single speed sprocket .
Purists dont read this .
Most freewheels that dont have "removing cutouts " , can be removed by the old method of a chisel on the inside of the sprocket .

Don't tell me it cant be done I have removed about 10 of these in the past couple of months when i have stripped down BMX bikes wheels to convert to trike disc front wheels

Regards and good luck in the future in developing the skills to do your own maintenance

regards emma
