Please Recomend a pair of slicks for commuting

Hi all

I had used during last summer a pair of Michelin Pro Race 3's folding tyres. They seemed to be pretty puncture resistance until, bang. For several days, I was getting at least one puncture a day...

As Winter was fast approaching I changed to my Schwabe Marathon plus winter tyres which are very puncture resistance (never had a puncture through the tread, and only one via the side). But the resistance of these tyres is quite noticeable, one hill on the slicks Ican reach ~39mph whilst on the Marathons Iam lucky to get over ~33mph

But now spring is here, it is time to repalce them with somethign more suitable for longer rides home or the odd Sunday ride.

DO I go for another pair of Michelin Pro Race 3's folding tyres or is there anyhting else on the market that are as fast and more resistance to punctures?

Continental Gatorskins, 23c version weighs in at around 230g. Not had any punctures on them bar potholes and some UFO that took a real gouge out of the sidewall.

I only have experience of 38c Vittoria Randonneur Hyper's, which I done about 2000 miles with one p*******, a large shard of glass just reaching the inner tube, my M+'s would have survived it.
Swapped the M+'s for the Vittoria's at the beginning of March, as soon as all my commute was in daylight.

Had conti gp 4 seasons for >500 miles now and no p*'s. I have them in 28mm that weigh 280g. Fast, grippy and good puncture resistance. But expensive and the jury is still out on durability.

I expect to need a new one on the back after every 2k miles or so, and will rotate the front one. They cost £30 so thats 1.5p/mile. Pesonally I dont mind spending a fair bit on the couple of square inches that keeps me on the road!

Conti 4 Seasons - very grippy in all weathers but EXPENSIVE. Cheaper alternative to the Pro Race - get Mich Lithion 2's - about £15 each and ride very nicely. 230 grams so a bit heavier than Pro race, but less than half the price.

I've been used Specialized Armadillos for a few years and I have no complaints. Very good value for money too.

I have Kenda tyres on my MummyTrailerTowing bike, have done nearly 3000 miles & the bcak tyre has just worn out, still plenty life left in the front one - Never had a puncture
I have Continental Ultragatorskins 23" on my Dawes, only had 2 punctures & that's because I live next door to a glass shop & the skip had been emptied that day - They paid for new tyres!

I put these on my MTB 26 x 1.5 last year, and although i found them to be really fast i've suffered quite a few p*******s since. Hope your luck holds.

Good answer....I've just purchased these for my road bike. Look grand....and was hoping they would perform well.

For commuting I swear by Bonty hardcases. COnti GP4000s or 4 Seasons for training and Pro3s for the more serious stuff.

The Bonti's are a bit crap on grip though (in wet). So being in Manc Land I had Conti 4 Seasons, and now Mich Lithion 2 (cheaper alternative), but both very grippy. The Mich tyres need running in to get the manufacturing chemicals off them.
