The other day, when my 12 year-old daughter was in town with her friends she bought a few knick-knacks and came home to find she had been given an old farthing, dated 1860, in change. She was quite delighted with it. I am curious - has anyone here ever found an older coin in their pocket change?

I've had an old 50p one or two times before!

It's probably worth more than the correct coin would have been

Not the same, but I do also get foreign coins every so often, and I even found an Irish 10 Punt note blowing down the street one day.

I keep them all (and if its Euros, I sometimes take it on holiday with me to spend. If I remember that is, although its usually only 1 and 2 cent pieces anyway, so hardly worth it).

I do my best to minimise the pocket change, and very carefully organise my monetary transactions to minimise the number of coins that remain in my wallet. That way, I don't have to carry so many up the hills on my commutes^_^.
