I looked that up: apparently they were heavy and expensive because they were all hand built: those curves were apparently individually hammered into shape by craftsmen, not an iddeal method for a military vehicle.

Don't think they got around to a vehicle manual, much less a health and safety manual.
The entire front end, steering wheels and all, was supposed to be removed and replaced.
