I do find that a little bit disturbing. They will just drive it underground, late night cheese rolling using cheap imported Edam. Where will it all end i ask you !

At the bottom of the hill or slope being used. Gravity & all that. This answer assumes no run-off area.

Actually I think people who wear lycra shorts should be stopped by the rozzers and be made to cover up.

I think they should be looking at peoples shoes first, if your on a road bike with SPD/SPD-L or similar pedals but not wearing shoes with cleats, that would be suspicions.

I regularly cycle with normal trainers on while my pedals are SPD-SL's. Haven't been stopped by the rozzers yet.

a. Police doing their job in the fight against bike crime
b. Police stopping innocent cyclists unnecessarily.

A quarter of a century ago when I was undergoing police training, we did a section on theft of pedal cycles. The manual at the time told you to look to see whether the cyclist was wearing trouser clips.
