Police Security Stickies - Leeds Train Station

Got to the station this morning and was greeted by two officers who kindly security stickered my bike and gave me a spare for the new one in January, nice to see them out and about being active about bike security

Well handing out stickers is a tad easier than catching bike thieves......

I'd been meaning to get the bike tagged for a while but never bothered, thanks to someone's iniative it now is

Gosport a couple of years ago, and teh Police had a stall, which was being ignored..... they were selling "Silver Sold Secure" locks for a fiver as well as giving good advice.

We ended up phoning friends and relatives to nip down and get a lock!

I've heard of that I think a few forces/councils have done something like it, wish Leeds Police would do it lol

To be fair one of the coppers went over to another cyclist that didnt stop so they were at least trying to speak to us rather than just stood there.

A thief may be deterred by the visual marker of the sticker and that they now know the bike is also registered on a site such as immobilise and so is easier to trace if stolen. The security increase comes from the fact I am making my bike less desirable to a thief.

Ahh so the sticker is a partial indication of registration of some kind.

I have the immobitag where there is a warning sticker on the bike and a number registered on the website and a chip hidden in the frame that can be read with a scanner.

Those are a cool concept, but the police don't use them, as the scanner is huge and expensive.

I happened to be in Leeds yesterday and was actively approached by a good copper doing the same. Great service and a really nice fella, although I missed my train as a result and had to go for a pint

Reflecting on it tho, it does seem only more likely that if found, the bike will be returned to me but not any LESS likely to be nicked!
