Using an abrasive polish (like autosol and duraglit) too often will eventually wear away the chrome. Whilst chrome is very hard over a long period of time you will polish through the chrome. Better to use something like pledge or a wax based polish (providing the chrome isn't tarnished/rusted) to keep the shine and protect from future tarnishing and rust.
If its rusty = wire wool/brush dipped in autosol!
