Thanks for the feedback - keep it coming.

So far it seems the layout is the biggest put-off, and a VNC is another key bug-bear.

The layout I can do something about - VNC is a different matter, but it has been suitably complained about in the developer's forums by me and other board owners and will be revamped in the near future.

The overall speed of the site seems to be less of an issue, and with recent tweaks to the server I'm fairly confident the technical side of things is working okay. However I do know that in certain browsers the new skin renders/works really slowly, so I'll try to focus my efforts on creating a simple, cleaner, skin to start with and we'll take it from there.

I've always tried to make CC inclusive and I don't want to push people away for the sake of the layout, so give a little time to re-work it and see if I can't get it working cleaner and faster and back to it's old self for some of you (although I won't be getting rid of the new "colourful" skin, so don't worry if you like this one best!!).

Cheers,
Shaun

PS. With regard to the albums from the previous site - I still have all the data so if you need the images emailing just get in touch and I'll see what I can do - webmaster -~- at -~- cyclechat.net

I usually have CC on in the background at work, I've got used to the layout now and it all seems to be pretty much as it was before. I preferred the way that the old PM worked and looked, not that I'm inundated with PMs ... sigh. The site does seem a bit quieter but maybe these things go in cycles  not that I'd know the life-cycle of fora as this is the only one I've ever posted on.

How much I use it is proprtional to how busy I am at work and nothing to do with the new software.

it felt strange at first but now I've got used to it.

I have overcome my initial dislike by using Cyclechat Lite but then that sums me up anyway. Lacking depth but nice on the eye! Bollix!
I know what theclaud means about the PM thingy after inadvertently subjecting too many people to my humerous asides drivel, and a high risk strategy if you're slagging someone off!

Me and my new mates (you know who you are!) love the Chat feature - whiling away many an hour putting the world to rights, discussing gearratios, wine, balh blah blah.....

Perish the thought. Talking of high risk, I know someone who nearly sent a PM to someone called thecock!

Things have picked-up a little today - I assume because everyone's back to work after the hols - but I know some long-term regulars aren't liking the new look and that some browsers don't seem to render it very well (IE7 in particular goes at half speed and makes it a chore to navigate).

If it's just a matter of creating a simpler, cleaner "feel" to CC with a no-frills skin - then I'm more than willing to put the effort in if it helps to put the pleasure back in to browsing CC ...

Cheers,
Shaun

Hello everyone,

A few people have told me they're visiting CC less often since the upgrade and I wanted to try and find out why so I can resolve it.

I've had some good feedback that points towards the site design / layout (finding it difficult to use; the layout is big and clunky compared with the previous simple look) - and also the speed of the site (not loading as quickly, so harder to dip in and out at will).

Functionality is also an issue for some people; they cannot use the site in the way they did before (or at least cannot easily work out how to do stuff!!!).

Most of this can hopefully be fixed; a "classic" simple skin that looks like the old site, server/code tweaks to speed it up, and a series of "How to's" to show you where things are, but I'd like some specific feedback so I know exactly what people are having the most trouble with.

Please take a minute to add your vote, and if you are finding the new CC less accessible please post some constructive feedback detailing what problems you are having so that I know where to concentrate my efforts.

Many thanks,
Shaun

Hi love the site although not posting much since the update partly due to me finding it a little difficult to use at first but getting there now. My other reason is that most of the people I speak to on here also email/text/facebook directly regarding rides and meetings ect.

Shaun,

I'd love to vote but the voting form comes up blank. Is this in fact some sort of post-modernist, über ironic joke for the IT age?

Likewise - just hold the left mouse button down and drag the cursor over the poll and the text magically appears!

Shaun - all new layouts take a bit of getting used to, but the differences are not that great compared to the old one. There does seem to be a bit of a dearth of really interesting threads in P&L, but that is inevitable in a forum like this, this is bound to ebb and flow from time to time. It does take longer to open up the site, but then shouting at the microwave to get a move on is the best analogy to this I can think of. The real problem is we want everything instantly these days.

I'm still here, but haven't been quite as much as before for a number of reasons:

  • Neophobia. Just didn't feel comfortable with the new layouts at first. I've got over this now, I think.
  • The new forum didn't seem to have remembered which posts I'd looked at in the old forum in some of the older, longer-running threads. I couldn't be bothered to scroll through and work out where I'd got to.
  • The "View New Content" button doesn't behave like the "new posts" button in the old version. When I click to page 2 of "new content", it seems I see p2 of new content at that point in time, not p2 of what was new when I clicked the new content button in the first instance. That's annoying. Have I missed something that behaves more like "new posts"?

I only voted no because I've been too busy of late to visit as often as I used to. Ask me again in a few weeks and I'm sure it'll be a yes.

No issues or complaints here other than some teething problems with smilies :tongue:

TBH, I struggle to remember what the old S/W looked like!

I voted Yes.

I prefer the new software. I only use the site from my home pc, and haven't noticed any speed issues. It's all good Shaun, thanks for all your hard work.

I find it really really slow. Painfully so sometimes. It has certainly meant I am here less often.
[/quote]

Runs just as fast as the old forum on both my home and work computer.
I suppose a lot of factors are involved here, computers, ISP's etc
So it seems to be different strokes for different folks.

Just as much as normal here, the only thing I'm having very minor problems with is the Emoticons, if I put more than one in a line it puts some of them as text for some reason or other. Irritating but not of great importance.

Now I'm used to it, I greatly prefer the new look & feel.

No issues with speed generally, either from home or on a variety of hotspots while travelling. Very occasionally access appears to get lost for a while, but that's been maybe 3-4 times in total.
