I agree with the comments about the site feeling more cluttered since the changes - then, I suppose this is inevitable with more modern and diverse features being added for those who like such things.

TBH, I preferred the old look and feel of CC when it was more a 'village' - now it's more like a 'town' I feel a bit less at home in its streets. But hey-ho - it's still a cracking forum!

... the only thing I'm having very minor problems with is the Emoticons, if I put more than one in a line it puts some of them as text for some reason or other ...

This will apply to a lot of people.

The new software requires a SPACE before the smiley (in the background, it uses this space to denote encoding of the smiley and hence the icon). Without the space, the smiley code isn't triggered so you end up with somthing like this:thumbsup: ... instead of this

If you see the code, just edit and plonk a space in front and it should work okay after that. (The icon panel on the right should automatically insert the space when you click them.)

I understand from the developers that they are going to change the editor for a more "standard" one in a future release. The overhead of coding their own will be used to better enhance other features.

Cheers,
Shaun

Thanks Shaun, I'll have to remember the space in the future.

Quite happy with the change but there certainly seems less activity and fewer new threads to respond to. That is why I am here a bit less, no issue with new layout.

Same here. I check forums regularly but there just seems to be a bit less going on.

Shaun.

I'm using the site a lot less for two reasons.

First. I have become very busy at work This means that I have far, far less time to "browse" and add to the site.

I am also cycling far less (as i need to make more meetings in town and cycling just isn’t an option). Not cycling seems to have the effect of making me less likely to visit the site...odd i know but I just feel a bit of a fraud adding to a board that when I don’t participate in the activity that the board is devoted to. This is just starting to change as I am now riding a lot once more (my health depends upon it)

Secondly, I found a few functions were lost that I found I used a lot. Upon re-visiting the site I have found that these points have been addressed. I think one was the feature of visiting my last posts (not just the thread that I posted in) I use this because I used to post so frequently it helped me to keep up “conversations” on threads. Also found the message system a little confusing, but I am totally used to that now.

Its a compounded issue as if less visitors post (like me) then there is less to read and respond to, so less reason to visit, then less reason to post...etc....

The function issue was probably the catalyst for my recent lack of activity though (if I am honest) as I did managed to contribute to the old site during “dry patches” of non riding.

btw, I too didnt take to the skin, but loved the fact that i could choose my own. I actually prefer NOT to have the cc logo (in case anyone is looking over my shoulder and constantly seeing it) so Ichoose the "clean cut" skin, which i find most appealing and very contemporary.

For me the thing I find an issue with is in the View New Content. The fact that it duplicates the the thread multiple times because more than one person has replied means that I try to skim down the list and then I find that I have missed threads whilst trying to ignore those threads.

Ditto. I'm not sure what to vote. I still visit everyday, but just tend to skim the new content. Probably spending a little less time, but that maybe due to a change in situation at home & certainly nothing to do with the new software

I come on here as much but can't see why the change was made as the old version worked well and was less fussy somehow.

I voted no. I have stopped posting as much and I think I lurk more.

At first, I think, it was the layout and new design. But that just takes a bit of getting used to.

Now its more the functionality. As mentioned previously, the VNC isnt nice to use. I also still have no way of checking what subscribed threads have new unread posts. I try and use the My Content option, but it doesnt provide what the old software did. Its just too difficult to keep track of the threads you are lurking/posting in

On a smaller scale, I preferred CC when it was UK based. especially in Commuting. Its interesting to hear experiences from cyclists all over the world, but the majority of my posts are targeted at people who use (or have used) UK roads and know all about the county's horrible car culture etc. But the change hasnt been as drastic as I expected.

Hi Shaun

I voted "No - Other reason (please post specifics in the thread)" because the idiots at work appear to have blocked CC, sometime during the period when I wasn't coming on here (Winter & Spring). They normally only block big time wasting sites, like Facebook. Perhaps CC is getting so famous now, as to warrant such actions

Found that too, though there does seem to be a few newbies appearing at the moment and it seems to be picking up again. Have the changes frightened a few people away and they are slowly getting used to the new software and coming back?
Biggest thing for me is speed - my connection is very slow, more a dialup speed than anything else whilst on the ship - not really the fault of the site as its fine at home. But then at home I'm more likely to be out on the bike than here!

I confess that I have become an irregular visitor since the site has been changed.

I've had a think why and I can't really put my finger to it. I think it is the "feel" of the boards now. It's hard to explain but it seems more "cluttered" for want of a better word. The colour scheme probably doesn't help, it's a bit too noticeable for having a quick skive at work for example. If you can change the skin now I'll have to look if there is something I prefer.

I also didn't like that you couldn't hover over a topic for a preview, but this has been addressed now. I'm not getting the whole multi quote thing now either. I much preferred the old way.

I suppose it is just a case of getting used to it again.

I happen to be using it less, but just cos of work etc... on here less than before at the mo.
I've got used to the layout, and like it now... I find some things easier to follow/do, and it's better on my phone too.
