What does it matter? Things have never been the same since the C+ forum died  .

(Only joking! The forum works fine for me - in very rural France..)

Definetely very misleading poll because if people have left they won't be voting - but it might help you catch those who are frequent attenders.

Likes - the 'remember me' actually works.

Dislikes - the skin's still too brash
- can't find "goto last post" option which I'm sure used to be there.

Knowing that a lot of the long-term regulars are multi-fora, I was kind of hoping that if they knew of anyone who had found the "new" CC too difficult to get to grips with, they could give them a nod towards this poll so they can at least try to give feedback as to the issues they're facing; however I think it's become clear that the boldly coloured skin (and cluttered control layout) is a "biggie" ... ;)

The VNC and editor are also featured a few times, and I've also come across a fair few other things I am hoping will be addressed in future updates (like marking a whole thread as read, even if I don't manage to get to the last page!!)

All of these I will try to address in time, and would hope they're not "deal breakers", but if people aren't enjoying CC because of the layout, and it's something I can do something about, then I'd like to know because I don't want exclude people if I can help it.

I'll leave the poll open for a while, and in the meantime crack on with a skin that works more like the old one ...

Cheers,
Shaun

I'm just trying this. Will see what happens.
No the edit problem still occurs. To be precise it is this. Tap the post and the "edit" button appears. Tap the button and the post opens BUT I am only able to edit the text which shows initially in the "window." attempts to scroll down to text which is not visible fail. So int post above I could edit the quote from your post but not my reply below it

I think I am posting less - well because there are less threads that interest me. Forums are about content, content and content. Shaun has done well to sort out most of the niggles arising from the change. We just need fresh material ...

I'm also worried that talking net heads who moved to forums from usenet (remember that) are now spending more time reading, writing and commenting on blogs. The age of the forum may have peaked ... I'm seeing a slowdown on my own forums too.

I'm not on as much. Partly it is the standard skin. If I log on then I have the Pro blue as it is easier to read. If I am just browsing then it is the 'garish shouty in your face' colours and I am less inclined to browse a bit before logging in.

Mainly I am busy with work, projects, stuff and active as admin on another forum.
I haven't even had time to get the bike or trike out and even the electric tractor hasn't left the confines of the trailer for ages.

Just an update:
  • I've tweaked the server so things should be loading that little bit quicker now (shaved 9/10ths of a second off page loading times with the work I did last night).
  • I've commissioned a designer to create a "like the old forums" skin to make the new software more "familiar" for CC'ers who are finding the new, bolder, layout difficult to get on with. It won't be exactly the same, but it should be enough like the old one to make you feel more at home.
  • VNC - I know it's not as intuitive as it should be (and that that is an understatement ... ), but bear with us on this and eventually it should come round (it's pegged by IPS for work in a near future update).
  • Posting editor (and its niggles and oddities) - this is also going to be changed in a future version, replaced with an industry standard one that should behave itself better.
  • The "marking the whole entire thread as read even if I didn't get to the end of it" niggle is also on the cards for change, hopefully to a similar system that vB used whereby you can pop in and out of a thread and still have the "new unread" items marker on pages you haven't viewed yet.
  • Current layout - I plan to try and optimise it for speed some more, and will - as a first foray into that - put a navigation drop-down at the top of the forum page. I hadn't realised just how much this was used - sorry ...
As a last item, I'm going to hold off on any further site development work for the time being; it's been a BIG change and everyone needs a good deal of time to get used to it.

Cheers,
Shaun

No, the cheap skates at work only run Windows XP and Internet explorer 6 and won't up grade; the new software doesn't display correctly on XP & IE6 the layout of the display make it difficult to read; hence, now only normally come on at home where were running Lynex and Chromium.

Try selecting the skin "IP Board" from the drop-down at the bottom left.

It's not "branded" as CycleChat and isn't perfect, but does offer better IE6 support.

For more colourful semi-IE6 skins try CycleChatLight or CycleChatOrange.
