but go 5 miles out of Newquay and its great, away from it all camping in a field . although i prefer Lizard peninsula for that true middle of nowhere feel when its dark and a clear night so you can see the stars. many a happy moment flat on back silly grin on my face on the lizard watching the stars whizz by ( OK i know its the earth rotation and its orbit through space )

Very true, and one of plus points of Newquay is that it acts as a sort of chav blackhole, pulling in the dross of tourists and leaving the rest of the county pretty chav free.

I've been skiing 3 times, the first two were school trips so I thought I'd give it another chance...nope, not for me, boring and the only things that would alleviate that would be outside of my personal risk/reward scales.

Snow is for pretty pictures and kids to make snowmen and do some sledging.
I've never been skiing...never had the opportunity really, when I could afford it. And I'm not likely tro look for oportunities to go, because I reckon that I WOULDF enjoy it, but only when I was good enough to not fall over all the time.
My Sister and brother in law (who are pretty well off) recently paid a fortune for them and their kids to go off skiing... disappointment, as snow/temps etc weren't right, and they didn't get much actual skiing in. Meanwhile, at home ,we spent hours sliding down snow-covered hills on £5 sledges, having a whale of a time

depends where you go and what facilities you want
I've like to be by the coast, but find that even the most basic sites charge exorbitant fee's during the school hols. TBH, I've given up trying nw, Cornwall is no longer considered when looking for holiday destinations, for this reason.

I know it's the opposite of what was asked but I really would like to tour extensively in the USA. I know equally that it's a cliché but the whole 'On The Road' Kerouac thing of just travelling town to town really does appeal to me.

I lived and worked in Boston, Mass for a year and I used to travel out of the city when I had the time. That really did wet my appetite for the country. Up-state NY, New Hampshire, Vermont etc are beautiful beyond believe. I really got an impression of how hugely variable the USA is and I wanted to see more.

It'd take a lifetime though, to do it anything like any justice.

But in the theme of the thread, there are loads of places I never think about visiting. I've no burning desire to that 'experience different culture' thing generally. I can watch tele and see that people do things differently. Besides, who really wants dysentery anyway! ;)

I remember flying back from Thailand after a month there and in Burma and deciding that that'd be my last such 'holiday'. I enjoyed it greatly but it felt like I'd reached a natural end point. These days, holidays are about just chilling out, doing very little, r&r kind of thing. Cycle touring is ideal for me, as it's about the travelling rather than the destination.

I've been skiing maybe 3 or 4 times. I enjoyed it but not enough to justify the expense of it.
