Can anyone recommend a route from the ferry port at Portsmouth North. I will be camping. This is the second leg of a return trip from Narbonne. Thanks in anticipation of the usual helpful replies.

No comments because there is no ideal or perfect route to suit everyone. If you post a proposed route, people with knowledge of the locality along the line of the route are more likely to comment.

Thanks Snorri. I was hoping that someone might have cycled this route and that I could begin my planning with their route. To mark my retirement in 2010 I cycled from Calais to Narbonne where I left my Dawes Super Galaxy. To mark my reaching 60 years in July I have decided to cycle it back home to Fife. I am thinking of a route that goes Portsmouth, Reading, Oxford then East of Leicester towards Lincoln and then following the Sustrans National Route 1 up the East coast. Any comments gratefully received.

I cycled fairly directly from Portsmouth to London, where I wanted to spend a couple of days, then took a rather long route home round the Norfolk coast via Colchester, Lowestoft, Cromer and Kings Lynn, Lincoln, Hull and onto NCN 1 to Edinburgh, Perth etc.The route can be unearthed with some research on this site http://www.sustrans.org.uk/map?searchKey=Search our mapping&searchType=search&Search=Find#478800,461596,1
Sorry I cannot give more detail, but I have a fairly casual attitude to route planning and after London was just heading north and hugging the coast as much as possible, which I enjoyed but the coastal scene is not for everyone.
My route was by no means direct, but I had no time pressures due to cutting short a French tour which had gone a bit sour.
