Err not sure, not knowing the road ... bit confused by the straight on arrow in that lane and the turning left in the next lane....

but nice position within that lane.

I cycle down there on my commute, i cycle the whole length of the road in that position as i know the road surface next to the kerb is piss poor till you get to the middle. so perfect!

It is confusing, but the whole road goes around to the left..

+ i will add, after you go around the corner, there are still 3 lanes, and the lane he is in is rarely used, but gives you best position for which ever direction you are going in. so he couldn't have done any better.

Odd road markings. The left lane has an arrow for straight ahead and the centre lane is for turning left.
I have looked on Google maps and can't see anything like it there !

The straight on arrow and the turn left arrow are about 50 yards apart. The straight on arrow coincides with the lane splitting arrow in the middle lane.

All three lanes subsequently have turn left arrows, which you can't see in the webcam image because the road sweeper is in the way.

Have a look at the Streetmap image and you can see more clearly that the arrows are separated.

LOL! Yeah, that's my positioning too, in fact all the way from just before HPC and around the roundabout too. Too much lane changing, the roundabout, and the bad surfaces as mentioned. Well, except I'm usually on the offside of all three lanes if the traffic is queuing and I'm filtering.

Would there be any other position on this road?

Narrow lanes, approx 7 and half feet wide - centre of the lane is the only sensible choice. You cannot share a lane that narrow with a vehicle that is 6ft plus wide unless you want to lose skin on your elbows...

Choice of lane is a different matter - however, I use the inside lane by default; the middle and offside lane when filtering through traffic.
