Today I rode over a large pothole at speed and heard a loud crack (a bit like the sound of bursting bubble wrap, but much louder) from the front wheel/forks. I thought maybe that I had broken a spoke, but I could see no sign of any damage. The wheel, spokes, axle and carbon forks all looked fine, so I'm wondering whether I need to be concerned or not.

Yes .... Take it to a good Lbs

Do get it checked but it could just have been the bearing moving. Is the bearing stack correctly torqued down by the top cap?

Thanks both, I was only just in my LBS this afternoon (looking at bikes for my wife), so I'll get it checked out by them. I did examine the forks with a magnifying glass and couldn't see any signs of cracks. However, I did notice quite a bit of play in the headset bearing which I've now adjusted.

Almost certainly this loud crack arose when your handlebars moved slightly with your weight on them and the impact shock from the pothole.
Just tighten the four bolts which secure them to your stem.
