I have an old clock/radio/alarm clock that was given to me ages ago. No idea who manufactured it as it's just got Tesco branding.

I've decided I'd like to start using it, it's working fine of the mains but I can see there is a battery back up presumably in case of a power cut and it takes 2 x AA batteries.

Do these need to be standard AA batteries or do they need to be re-chargeable? Obvious putting standard non-rechargeable cells in a device that tries to charge them is not a very good idea.

Usually the batteries are fitted to keep the clock in time. Save you resetting it if there's a power outage.

Might even keep the alarm set.

Open up to see what batteries are already in, it will say rechargeable if they are.
I think they will be rechargeable.

It's very unlikely it will charge the batteries, so I'd think it will just want standard batteries.

We have a 20 year old Hitachi clock radio alarm (it was a wedding gift) that takes standard batteries to keep time in the event of a power cut.
