RR is trying to blame me... ME!!

It was all Nasa's fault after they either got flattened by one of the feet or cooked by the engine of Apollo 12's LEM.

It's why they quickly changed the name of the landing site from the Ocean Of Clangers (Mare Clangere) to Mare Procellarum, Ocean Of Storms, at the thought that they had just wiped out one of the first ever recorded alien species in history.
Indeed, both Pete Conrad and Al Bean got a distinctly Stormy reception when they landed back on earth!

Pete Conrad is believed to have buried their flattened, mashed or incinerated little woollen remains... Or, did he?

The Clangers, knowing the Soup Dragon's flames, thought the LEM might be friendly or useful to them too, after all, they also knew the Mechanical Chicken, so thought machines generally were not to be feared.

In fact, not ALL of the Clangers were actually killed, just most. It is why they are seen being scared of a Spaceman landing in an episode a few years later.

The Soup Dragon was utterly bereft and the remaining Clangers were never really the same after either.
