I have never had a dog.
My daughter has 2 lovely cross terriers. They are sisters. I was just watching them play fighting in the garden.
Question is......they are 11 years old. When one dies will the remaining one pine or is it just normal animal life?

It’s likely to be bereft. My daughter had 3 dogs and when of them died suddenly one of the others was never the same again. Missing his best mate.
