Not as good as some, but it's the only way in or out.

Here you go. Lhasa to Kathmandu over a couple of weeks. Yes that is a 160km, 4000m descent into Nepal at the end.

Now that's one I'd like to try!!
It was a fantastic days ride. The views are stunning. Though to be honest, the lack of oxygen near the summit was a bind. It ended up causing me double vision. Anyway iirc it took 4 hours 20 to climb up and an hour 10 to get back down again.

If that is the climb near Granada then a cyclist pal had the same problem when he rode up there.

He later moved to Tenerife and used to ride up Teide once a month. He said he always started to notice the reduction in oxygen towards the top of that too.

I don't think I'd be able to cope with either of them, but maybe I will have a go at Teide one day and see how I get on.

Ha ha - that certainly puts the 'longest freewheel in Britain' discussion elsewhere on the forum into perspective! (I imagine that there must be some places in that 160 km where it goes uphill though?)

I like the descent time! Lack of oxygen would definitely be the worry for me. Highest I've climbed before is a little over 2,000m and I started to notice the increased effort even at that level.

Colin, yes it was in Grenada. (Such a lovely city). It was part of a week long cycling trip myself, Ross and Tim took.

This is me near the top. I say near, as there was at least another 100m to go but it was a dirt track so we left the last bit of climb to Tim who had attempted the summit a couple of years earlier but due to snow, couldn't make it. Nothing was going to stop him this time.

This is near the summit when it does snow (not my pic)

The whole week was just one long climb fest. Though there were some absolutely fantastic descents too. It was hard work no doubt, But worth it.
The was the weeks profile. 295 miles and nearly 36000ft climbing over 6 days.

Would I climb the Pico again? No. Fantastic as it was, and I really enjoyed the climb. There's other mountains that need climbing.
I must say though that I found Spain by far the best country by far for cycling. Especially for the roads and courteous drivers.
