Anyone got any experience posting bikes via courier?

Which service did you use - did it get there okay?

I'm after a Pashley Princess for the missus and I'd rather avoid the 500 mile drive to pick it up myself you see. There's a second hand one listed as pretty much brand new - do you think it is worth the risk buying a bike without actually inspecting it yourself to save a bit of cash?

Cheers all.

Have you used them before?

Parcelforce is coming out as £27.23 for 20kg parcel - it's just whether it would fit under the 150cm length limit - I presume I'd have to take the front wheel and basket off to make it possible?

It's hard guessing dimensions when you're the buyer and not the one sending it out!

Ive used paisley and they were okay, they called me up and charged me extra for highland delivery (even though it wasnt one of the specified postcodes for extra charge) mas they said it would take 2 days not 1 but it arrived next day, thr most annoying part was ordering a 20 quid box online to put it in!!! No where round here had one.

Yes, and very good they are too. Cost was £22 last time I used them.
Get a bike box from your LBS and pack the bike well.

Paisley Freight are good but they are only agents for TNT who did this to a bike I sold on Ebay:

I had a battle with TNT, even getting their rep to call and after refusing their first offer I managed to shame them into paying out around £60, which was like getting blood from a stone.

Pack the bike well.

You can only do so much with packing but the more the better I think.

This one got to Young Ed by parcelforce in one piece thankfully.

@Danny91 i have sent loads of bikes and frames via couriers such as parcel monkey , paisley freight and at the moment i am using senditnow.com who ship via parcel force , normal cost is around £18 .

so yes worth doing just ask seller to confirm how he will pack and box to avoid damage in transit i have seen frames turn up just wrapped in clingfilm and others just placed in empty bike boxes without packing .

this link shows how i normally pack for sending but a lot can depend on size of frame and box being used

where is seller based ?
