It was only a rumour - but did see an article showing that fixing a pothole costs £x - but the average number of claims from s single pothole is £y
and y is less that x
hence they could decide to only fix them itf they are likely to be a serious danger - and leave the rest until they can do a load together

there is also the point that potholes fixed in the wrong weather (whatever that is - probably wet and cold???) is likely to need fixing again quite soon - in the right weather it is more likely to last
so you save money by ignoring them until the weather is right
Rhino patching is the preferred method for potholes round these parts. But not until there's been a claim made against the council, and then it's overkill. Every hole in the vicinity of the one reported gets filled.

y probably get a crew together to fix it - then once they are in the area with the right equipment they fix everything they can

Now here's a thing, between photographing the scene on Sunday and going back with a ruler on Wednesday at the behest of the solicitor, yellow spray has appeared around potholes adjacent, but not the one that took Kay out. 🤔

It is worth talking to a cycling specialist solicitors. They will advise you if you can claim or not. And most work on no win no fee basis.
I can vouch for Slater and Gordon. I called them to ask if it was worth claiming and they said it was. I/we won.
So go for it, you have nothing to lose from just making a call.

Good luck.
I sincerely hope you do have a valid claim.
But... be prepared, the process can take a very long time. Mine was 18 months.

Someone has seen fit to share this post to a local village Facebook page.

Whilst I may have shared the more shocking images on what I hoped would be a like-minded community here, we have not done so on social media as there will be many people who will know us locally, including peripheral and elderly family members who do not (did not?) know about this accident.

We don't want the fuss, or to seek attention among our real friends, needy acquaintances, internet 'friends', or create undue worry which, as a result of the FB post, very much happening.

Please take the FB post down and in future, don't share a story that is not yours to tell.

I just withdrew my case after suffering a pelvic fracture and broken ribs after hitting a pothole about twelve months ago. The crux of the matter is you have to show the defect was previously reported and sufficiently severe for it to be negligent of the council to not have fixed it. If it has not been reported then that task becomes harder. The council have to disclose phone complaints received as well as written reports. In my case there was no previous report of the whole so the chances of winning in court would not be good.
Good luck with it.
I pursued them not for compensation albeit there was a claim, but so they had to deal with it, it also adds to the record of the decline of the roads infrastructure and the damage done to individuals.
