There's a really nasty one near where I live, it's not very wide which makes it hard to see but really deep, you can see actually see the metal cross sections

If your bike was damaged due to a pothole and you had bike insurance would you be covered or would you still have to try and claim from the council?

The chances of a claim against the Local Authority succeeding are enhanced if the pothole has been reported and left unfixed. However, if you report it yourself and then fall into it yourself, it might look a bit odd... Get a mate to log it.

It doesn't help that as far as I can tell, they do a pretty slapdash and perfunctory patch job. There's a section near me where the same hole has opened up at least 3 times in the last 2 years. If they'd fixed it properly the first time they would probably have spent less!

Is that Towyn Road, between Pensarn and, well, Towyn? Seeing as it is a main road, the surface is a disgrace.
Yes. I also spoke to a council worker on my commute last week when I got to Rhos. I asked him when the stretch of coastal path leading from Rhos to the Rainbow bridge was going to get resurfaced. He said that there is a programme in place to replace all of the railings and resurface the paths. He didnt say when it would happen but did say that it relies on the funding situation.

The road I normally take has a section that is so badly rutted due to poor edging of a repired section that if I can, I pull right into the centre of the road to avoid having to ride over it. It is not a pothole persay, but is equally as dangerous. I wouldn't mind but the council have resurfaced to of the highest value residential streets in the area within the last 12 months and yet this one has been like this for a couple of years.

I am led to believe that potholes get repaired more quickly than larger rutted sections. I suppose they are quicker and easier to "fix". I guess that you can only keep on at them until it rises up the list of priorities. On your route I would expect a very smooth surface to keep the footballers' low-ground-clearance cars in good condition.

The Whirlies roundabout in East Kilbride is like the Grand Canyon, going south to north in the left lane. If it was South Lanarkshire council I think they'd sort it out, but it's Amey so they don't seem as bothered.

It does make you wonder.

I had a meeting with Cheshire East in a professional capacity and members of highways were present. I pushed them on the state of the roads (didn't mention as a cylclist I have a vested interest:whistle: ) The things I found out were that recently all the work is subcontracted to a third party although they are still badged as council contractors. They have a computer modelling programme that identifies which roads need doing first! They have a new injection pothole repair machine for quicker more efficient repairs. Which I think I have seen in action on a ride with another forum member which leaves raised patches of tarmac where the repair has taken place. :banghead:
The main point that was made to us though was that the roads are considered a wasting asset in the current economic climate and there is not enough money to maintain let alone repair them.
