I sadly have IBD and severe bile acid diarrhea, which are a bit of a nightmare for cycling. Have a few other issues I'd rather not go into but only take three daily meds and occasional steroids and pain meds but nothing stronger than dihydrocodeine.

Every IBD med I take apart from steroids seems to fail too. I've kinda given up on biologics and am currently off any IBD treatment other than steroid suppositories. I'm not particularly happy as there seems to be a major reluctance to prescribe steroids. I understand there are risks but my IBD has been more or less uncontrolled for 6 years now and the inflammation through the roof, rarely going below 1000 calprotectin reading and sometimes hitting over 3000. Oh and my arse hurts lol.

On a related note, my cardiovascular fitness seems to be quite good, and blood pressure very good. But I've noticed I seem to have brachycardia resting heart rate. It's below 50 a lot of the time. I'm in my mid 40s and thought that a bit odd as I'm not an athlete but do love pushing myself up steep hills.

I'm 72 and take 3 tablets per day plus a 3 monthly hormone injection for prostate cancer.

Im on the Lansaprazole. It really is very good. I take calcium with it on the docs advice as those types of PPIs have been linked to osteoporosis.

Glad to hear it's working for you. If you don't mind me asking is it GERD related? I also have acid reflux but it seems to be bile acid rather than gastric as proton pump inhibitors like lansaprazole don't seem to do much. Then again I've never taken that one, only Omeprazole and some other one I can't remember the name of. I think Gaviscon Advance might work and probably should have tried it by now but I'm such a cheapskate.

I can't take calcium carbonate either as it forms stones sometimes that I have to p*ss out. Then again, it might have been the steroids I was on at the time. Two of these stones were a centimetre long lol. There are better forms of calcium though. Calcium citrate is pretty good I hear.

Sorry to hear you have prostate cancer lllaveago. It sadly runs in my family and seen how it affects people so my heart goes out to you. Have you been aware of it for long?

You are not a professional athlete. But compared to the vast majority who are sedentary you are an athlete. Less active people have much less efficient hearts.

Strong correlations between VO2 Max and resting HR from the Fenland Study, published in 2023.

”RHR is a valid population-level biomarker of cardiorespiratory fitness. Physical activity and adiposity attenuate the relationship between RHR and fitness.”

Thanks. It is stage 3. I had radio therapy about 7 years ago but then my psa levels went up. I had scans and blood tests but couldn't find it so I'm on hormone treatment. It has brought the numbers down to 1.4

One for the acid reflux, two a day for the ADD, one anticoagulant, one B12 supplement and one, as it was put above "per annum" daily (don't ask)
Calcium/D vitamin and Magnesium aren't currently prescribed but have been and I take them just to stay on the safe side

Ah, just added statins to the mix. Might open a chemist

Crohns or colitis? Long term effects of corticosteroids are pretty bad, if they weren't I'd probably still have a colon...
