I purchased some new shorts on Saturday, 34" waist and they were £14. So were the 28" and 44" waist versions.

How come that clothes don't cost what they cost? The amount of fabric in an xx-small t-shirt may be 1.5m sq m of fabric, the xxxl version may use 4 sq m of fabric. But they will both cost the same. If you went in to buy the fabric to make the shirt then you would be charged over twice the price.

Nothing else will be the same price for a bigger option, a McDonalds will cost more for large fries, a three seat sofa is more costly than a two seat one etc.

What is the costings behind that then, do they just average it out, so the bigger ones pay less, and the smaller ones pay slightly more?

Essentially the materials are a small part of the overall cost; the design, manufacture, transport, etc. makes up the majority of the cost involved.

Have they started pricing by size in the big UK cities? At least for men.

That would explain why so many are saving a few bob in these financially constrained times judging by the number of too small jackets and trousers that expose about 8" of leg that are being worn.

Also, a bit OT, but the poor buggers can't afford socks either.

There are some specialist suppliers that I've seen online that do charge different prices. Can't remember the examples at the minute.

Though I can imagine people being annoyed at having to pay more for the larger sizes.
