We have evidence that an environment similar to ours existed and has since become one that would not support us for a second. There is conjecture that our activities, such as using internal combustion engines may produce a similar result. The Prius is an attempt to mitigate the effects of the internal combustion engine.

Now, do you understand why my post was relevant?

Was there a suggestion that Mars' atmosphere had CO2 injected into it in some way? Without a link to
It was interesting this morning to see what the planet Mars used to be like.
it's difficult to see what link there could be other than the end result of a planet uninhabitable for humans. And is there any suggestion that global warming will lead to Earth becoming airless? A comment about Venus would have been more relevant.

I don't know; they said that their mission was to discover the cause. But you are welcome to discuss Venus if you wish, I have no objection so long as I don't have to live in an environment resembling either one.

So the only link was that Mars is uninhabitable by our standards?

Is there any need to scare monger like this ?

The only gas to escape earths gravity is Helium. Hydrogen wants to bind with anything else and cannot live amongst other elements on the planet without binding to them.

Your argument doesn't stand up to scrutiny

Moderator message: as User said, time to mod my own posts. I did not anticipate that a simple comment saying that discussing Mars did not appear to be on-topic would lead to this number of posts. It is NOT on topic. I'd be interested to discuss the matter, but not on this thread.
So no further messages on Mars (or even Venus). If you want to take it further, start a new thread.

(And if any of my posts does not have moderator in it, it means I am not writing as a moderator in that post).

What argument?

There is the matter that a car has designed to minimise the risk of making our world uninhabitable. Not far from us exists a planet which the experts now think may have been like ours but is so no longer. It has become uninhabitable. The thread discusses whether it is possible (or necessary) to produce a car, such as the Prius, that obviates that risk and obviously if the change on Mars is indeed found to be due to the sort of climate change we fear then that adds perspective to the matter.

Wasn't the thread discussing whether or not a two-stroke Trabant is the most environmentally friendly car in the world?

A Prius doesn't save the planet though...it is only as good as its battery life. if used around town, regualr cars have the stop start technology, so no advantage. The only way to charge the battery up is by running the engine. In the real world, it is a lemon.

@Linford and @User - please stop fondling each other's posts and don't derail yet another thread with your exclusive tit-for-tat style of discussion ... and everyone else, please do your best to stay on topic and take the thread a bit more seriously.

I know it's the Cafe and generally a much lighter place than the debating forum, but we can occasionally have a slightly more serious thread in here too!

Thanks,
Shaun
